Restoring Waters for Public Safety

Keeping our waters safe and clean for swimming, shellfishing, and wading is important for all of us in Kitsap. Contamination from human or animal waste can threaten public health.

Kitsap Public Health District monitors streams and marine waters monthly for pathogen contamination and prioritizes cleanup projects in affected areas. Potential sources include failing septic or sewer systems, poorly managed pet and livestock waste, and faulty stormwater systems.

Clean-up projects work to eliminate sources of contamination and can result in more shellfish beds safe for harvesting, cleaner streams for wading, and safer swimming beaches.
